 Rules and Regulations

Rules

Registration
I. When you decide that you want to register an account, you need to make sure that you understand all of the rules. Please do not register unless you know that you will be active and stay that way. We do not need the site full of members that are completely or mostly inactive. It does not make the site look good, nor does it make the administrative staff look good. So, please, when registering, abide by ALL of the rules and stay active!

II. When you create an account for the site, make sure that you create a login name and password that you will most definitely remember. If you happen to forget your password, you can always as an admin to reset it. Aside from that, an email with your activation key and account information is sent to the email address that you provided. These are just a few simple things to solve simple problems.

III. When you register and have your account made and activated, please make sure that you modify your profile. Please make sure that you give your character both a FIRST and LAST name, which will be displayed when you login. Also, change the gender as well as the various others including the time zone in which you are in as well as maybe your messengers and your own personal website.

IV. We all know that you sometimes like to have multiple characters. However, there is a limit to the amount of characters you are allowed to have. Usually, we would say maybe two or three, but we are allowed a MAXIMUM of five characters, and five only. However, if you prove yourself an active and worthy member, we might extend the privilege. However, this is ONLY is we think that you are worthy and capable.

Applications
I. Whether or not you wish to be a student, professor, or another person on the site, you have to fill out an application. All of the applications are basically the same, so you know what information you need. However, when you fill out an application that you want to be accepted, you need to be sure that you include ALL of the information that is asked for. Please be as thorough as humanly possible and give any extra information that you think is necessary. Lengthy applications are always wanted!!!

II. When posting an application, be sure to copy and paste the code (if there is one) into a new thread titled with your character’s name. All of this is explained in the applications, so you will not forget it—trust me!

III. Please, after you post an application, do not be impatient. The admins have their own life outside of the site, and we all need some time to ourselves. Do not send a hundred messages to their account asking them to accept you. If they are on and do not accept you, the same thing applies. The more you annoy them, the longer you wait to be accepted. So please, bear that in mind as you are awaiting your acceptance.

Role Playing
I. When role playing, we ask that you type in third person point of view as well as past tense. We see several people on several sites that type in various tenses, and it starts to get complicated as well as annoying. So, for everyone’s sake, we ask that you type in the format that we suggest. Below are some examples of both good and bad posts. The red is bad, which means that you CANNOT post that way. The green is good, and we require this particular way.

I walk up to Harry and said, “Hey, Harry! How are you today?” Harry looked at me and replied, “Fine, thanks.”

Jessica walked over to Harry and said, “Hey, Harry! How are you today?” Harry turned to her and replied, “Fine, thanks.”

II. While posting, we suggest that you look for a few things: Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, and Capitalization. These things are important while role playing, and we watch over them very carefully. There is a spell check provided on the site, and we suggest that you use it if you have a bad habit of typos. However, even if that is not the case, we will suggest that it is used. If it makes you feel more comfortable, type your posts in a Microsoft Word Document and have it check your spell and such as you type.

Grammar needs to be correct. We do not want to see people using the wrong tense of verbs. Your grammar needs to be understandable to the other members of the site so that we can all role play in a happy environment. However, if you lack good grammar, you might need help from someone that knows about it.

Punctuation and capitalization are both obvious. Please make correct use of commas, periods, quotation marks, parentheses, and other things. Please be sure that when your character is speaking, you use quotation marks (“ ”) and not an apostrophe (‘). Also, do not use a semicolon where a comma should go; it annoys me at times. Capitalizations is probably the most obvious thing. Capitalize the first letter of the first word of each sentence as well as proper nouns (names, places, classes, etc.).

III. The length of posts is another factor in posting. There will be absolutely NO, and we repeat, NO ONE LINERS!!! If we catch you posting one or two line posts, you will get a warning. This proves that you have trouble role playing and that you do not have interest to role play. So, we ask that you post ATLEAST 5 sentences in each post. We understand that you go completely brain dead, but then again, a person with one brain cell can think of something to type in order to meet the length of one paragraph (5 sentences).

IV. There is to be NO GODMIDDING! If you are caught godmodding, you will receive a warning. This means that you cannot role play the actions of another character or kill another character without the permission from both an admin as well as the characters themselves. Also, you cannot say that a spell hit someone, for the person can easily dodge it. However, not all of the spells can be dodged. We will call this a Mary-Sue character and warn you for it. NO ONE IS PERFECT!!!

V. NO DOUBLE POSTING. There is a ‘Modify’ button in your posts for a reason—so that you do not double post. Simply modify your post. If you are caught double posting, you will be warned.

Cursing and Sexual Content
I. Cursing is allowed, but only to a certain extend. We do not want all of the members walking around calling people ‘f*cking dumb a*sses’. We also do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, want to hear ‘g-d’ come from anyone’s mouth (or post, actually). It will not be tolerate at all. We understand that the characters get mad, but we still do NOT want to hear profanity in each post and such. It is simply unprofessional and will not be accepted.

II. Some sexual content will be allowed. You are allowed to have those lovey-dovey sex-type threads AS LONG AS you (1) tell an admin first, and (2) put the [Graphic] label on the outside. Failure to do this will result in severe consequences in which you will have to suffer.

If your characters wish to be married, ask an admin about it, and we might actually arrange the wedding. Also, do not say that people are already married unless it is clearly stated in the biography of the character.

Characters can get pregnant, yes. However, we are not allowed students below the age of (17) to become pregnant. It would not seem likely to have a 14-year-old walking around carrying a child. Therefore, we are not allowing teen pregnancy under (17). Also, if your character wishes to be pregnant, you have to make sure that you send a message to an admin and ask. Your character cannot be pregnant unless the admin gives the O-K to do so.

Character Representation
I. We will require you to have a picture of your character using a celebrity to represent them. Please be sure that you claim the celebrity in the claim thread (located in the graphics board).

II. You are allowed to have an avatar no larger than 100x100 pixels and a signature no larger than 600x300 pixels. Anything larger will be taken from your profile without hesitation and without question. If you already have the signature and wish to have a sparkly or something, we will allow it.

Extras
I. No stealing the material of the site. If we happen to venture upon a site in which you own, and we find our things there, we will be banning you from coming on the site. All of the things on the site are copyright of Hogwarts Today and not anyone else.

II. Advertising is simple. However, we will not tolerate it anywhere. You are allowed to have the URL to your site in your character profile as well as in the URL box provided in the C-Box. Do NOT send messages to members on the site. Those of you who receive a PM that advertises a site, please PM me immediately!

Fun and More
I. We recommend that everyone here on this site has a lot of fun! Please be sure to enjoy yourself and make yourself right at home.

II. It is also recommended that you invite as many people as you can to the site. If I hear from the people joining that you invited them, a special gift might just be in your path.

Out of Character Rules and Extras
I. We do not want to see racial or religious insults made towards another member of this board!

II. Do NOT argue in the C-box. Instead, take it to PM’s and nothing else. However, if the argument is bad enough and is reported, we admins will handle the matters in another way.
